Director: Ashhutosh Gowariker
Cast: Abhishek Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Sikandar Kher etc
Music: Sohail Sen
Instrumental works: Simaab Sen
The expectation from the songs of an Ashutosh Gowariker film is enormous, and when the name Sohail Sen is seen in the Music department, the expectations simply double up, considering the great tracks he gave us for ‘What’s Your Raashee’ last year. Now, the question is, whether the OST of Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey lives upto the expectations? Well, let’s have a look at the tracks..
Yeh Des Hai Mera- Sohail Sen
The opening track, performed by Sohail Sen himself, is an instantly likeable song. The song is good and the instrumentations are apt. Sohail Sen carries the right mood for the song. The ‘Vandemataram’ portion in the middle is awesme. This is a good track.
7/10
Naiyn Tere- Pamela Jain, Ranjini Jose
Now comes another loveable song. Performed by Malayalam singer Ranjini Jose and Pamela Jain, it is a beautiful song, I hope the song is picturised nicely. The surprise is the sweet voice of Ranjini Jose, which is quiet unusal!! Comparing her previous works in Malayalam, this is really the Ranjini Jose Version 2, and obviously this version is really good!! Pamela Jain is also equally, or even more good.
8.5/10
Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey
The title track of the movie grows in the listeners from the first listening itself. My real confusion is, Why on earth SURESH WADKAR is credited for this song???? It is a big question, even though the entire song is sung by the chorus, except for a whistle portion somewhere in the song, Suresh Wadkar is given the solo credit for singing. Is he the guest composer or something?? So confusing, but still the title track is at the right chord, it is good.
7.5/10
Sapne Saloney- Sohail Sen & Pamela Jain
The track is most interesting in the Pamela Jain portions, the ‘Pa Ni Sa Pa Dha Ni’ portion is simply beautiful, I expect lot of people keeping that portion as their ringtone, if the song hits the right place, in the hearts of people!!
6.5/10
Vande Mataram (Revised)- Cine Singers Assosiation
Now, this song is a hindi version of the National song Vandemataram. Excellent work, especially lyrics are great. The music is also good, I appreciate Sohail Sen’s attempt to re-compose the great song. Truly a song that makes you feel like being proud of an Indian.
8/10
Long Live Chittagong- Instrumental
The Teenagers Whistle- Instrumental
Surjya's Sorrow- Instrumental
Vande Mataram- Instrumental
The Escape- Instrumental
Now we have a bunch of instrumentals, all of them are awesome and are different from each other. This is an area where a composer can show his talent, and Simaab Sen has proved that he is simply great.
Naiyn Tere (Sad)- Pamela Jain
Revolutionary Comrades- Sohail Sen
These are two Unplugged Instrumental versions, and they are also good. Now, this attempt of giving the nstruments a domination over the singer’s voice in the unplugged version is a new trend, it is good.
On the whole, KHJJS is different from What’s Your Raashee, this has got some more serious songs, and some awesome instrumental works. Sohail Sen and Simaab Sen, you both rock!!
My ratings for Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey as an entire OST is 7.5/10
