Help Movie Review

Poster

Director: Rajeev Virani
Cast: Bobby Deol, Mugdha Godse, Sophia Handa, Shreyas Talpade, Jyoti Dogra

Help is a decent attempt from the director.
Even though the movie doesnt have a tight screenplay, is boring at times, but there are certain moments that make your heart beat faster..

I watched the movie in my phone, during a late night travel, and it was damn silence all around...
The opening scene of Susan drawing weird pictures and killing herself were damn creepy with its BGM.
That actress who played Susan has a creepy look, and her eyes and the way she looks towards the camera is creepy and disturbing...
There are several other moments also, which makes a kind of uneasiness in the viewers' minds.

The movie has Bobby Deol and Mugdha Godse in it, but neither of them has much to perform. Mugdha atleast had some dual scenes, and some stone-expression scenes, but Bobby Deol had nothing to do, he just had to support the flow of the story.
Shreyas Talpade also appears in 6-7 scenes, he also has nothing much to perform.

The movie actually belongs to the BGM director and the Re-recordist.
If at all the movie makes some impact in our mind, it is because of the creepy sounds factor.
Ah, Jyoti Dogra who played as Susan deserves special remark, for her creepy looks.

The movie partly inspires from 'Mirrors' in few sequences, especially towards the climax.

The movie lacked clarity in some points, but the flashback scenes were beautifully directed.

There are three songs composed by Ashu, the song 'Kehna Hai' is awesome!!!
The other two tracks are below average...

On the whole, an ok- ok kind of movie.

Raavan Movie Review

Raavan Movie Poster

Director: Manirathnam
Cast: Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vikram

Thank you Mani sir, for giving such a landmark movie!!!
This is a must watch for people to understand the downfall of an ace director!!!
What did Maniratnam think while writing the script???
Are the people so ____ to accept such a thing???
And the lead off-screen pair was a big big miscast, they suited well in Guru, but in this, gone baby, gone!!!
The weird make ups of the tribal people were not at all impressive.
Vikram was almost fine in his role, but his hindi accent was still a problem...
Govinda was overacting at most of the places...
Nikhil Dwivedi and Ravi Kishan were ok-ok...
Priyamani was below average.

The movie boasts of excellent cinematography, which is the sole grace of the film...
Even the music by Rahman is average, 'Khili Re' was the only impressive track....

Mani sir, how could you think of such a creation after the classic 'Guru'????
Damn heck downfall!!!

On the whole, just one question.
"Mani sir, enna kodumai sir ithu...???"

Thats it, and for the sake of a rating, 3.5/10

Saaya Movie Review

Saaya Movie Poster

Director: Anurag Basu
Cast: John Abraham, Tara Sharma, Mahima Chaudhary, Zohra Sehgal

An adaptation of the hollywood movie 'Dragonfly'.
The movie has an okay-okay screenplay, but the movie is saved by the brilliant direction of the mastero, Anurag Basu.
Without a good director, the movie could have been a total mismash, but thank God, it didn't happen!

The story is not seen many times, it is kind of story dealing with the connection between 'this world' and 'that world'.
Few loopholes are there in the movie, but not a problem..

This is one of the early movies of John Abraham, but he is perfectly fine, without any newcomer feeling.
The show almost belongs to him only, and he handles it well.
His expression was very good in the climax.
Tara Sharma had more song presense, than scenes. She is alright, but seems uncomfortable in a sequence or two.
Mahima Chaudhary also does a supporting role, she does it well.
Raj Zutshi irritates with his accent...
Zohra Sehgal was good for her role.

Songs by Anu Malik are okay, and surprisingly, Shreya Ghoshal appears in a song, as a school girl. The song is sung by herself, she looks good, and the song too!!

On the whole, an average script, made above average with a good direction.
"(Average+Good)/2= Above Average"

Sholay Movie Review By Tarun Adersh

Sholay (15 Aug 1975)

Movie Review:
By Tarun Adersh, August 15, 1975 - 15:17 IST

I've often wondered, what makes hype about a film in people's mind? Is it the starcast, or the music, or the director behind it? There have been films which come with zero expectations, and went on to become big hits, and there are films which come up wit huge expectations, and become mere duds at the boxoffice. Sadly, SHOLAY, the latest offering from Ramesh Sippy falls into the second category. The movie comes up with high expectations, and makes the audience disappoint to the core. People go into the cinema hall with mind full of expectations from the team Ramesh Sippy- Dharmendra- Hema Malini and comes out in regret!

The story is simple (Well, that doesn't mean it is IMPRESSIVE!), its a mixture of many foreign films, narrated in an arrogant way. The fallen-down ex-policeman[Sanjeev Kumar] makes use of two petty criminals Veeru[Dharmendra] and Jai[Amitabh Bachchan] to put a fullstop to the irritating dacoit king, Gabbar Singh[Amjad Khan]. The story has nothing new to offer, the revenge and parallel love stories are heard many times before. But then, things could have been better, if the plot was executed in a better way. Sadly, the director [Ramesh Sippy] fails to narrate the film in an interesting manner, and that is the biggest failure of SHOLAY
.

The movie tries to emphasise on the notorious stories of the 'Chambal Dacoits', but it is sidelined due to many unwanted relationships and sentiments. Consider the relationship between Jai and Radha, it looks so stupid in the screen even though the artists who performed them are real life couples. My advice to the couple is, choose films wisely, at least when you two are together on screen.

The director tries hard to make an impact in the viewers' mind, with the help of lame sentiments, but unfortunately it also doesn't work. Note the scene when Gabbar's people kill Thakur's family, or the scene towards the end, when Jai dies on the hands of Veeru. They are completely wasted. The same-side coin concept also seemed so stupid.

Rahul Dev Burman's music is average, the tracks make a feeling of heard-before. The 'Yeh Dosti' song was good on listening, but is wasted by a Tom& Jerry style picturisation. The screenplay by Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan is loose at most of the parts.
The movie boasts of being the first Indian movie to have a stereophonic soundtrack, and to be presented in the 70 mm. Sadly, the steriophonic effect is irritating to the ears, and 70MM screen only helps us get a headache.

Amjed Khan is a natural actor, but is totally wasted by the artificial acting in SHOLAY. Sanjeev Kumar is below average, with a stoned expression. Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan are alright, but doesn't look comfortable together at screen, together. Jaya Bhadhuri and Heme Malini have nothing to do. Rest of the cast is okay.

On the whole, SHOLAY is a below average flick from the makers of SEETA AUR GEETA. This SHOLAY is cold, and will eventually entitle heavy losses to the producers. Disappointed!

Paradesi Movie Review Malayalam

Director: PT Kunhi Muhammed
Cast: Mohanlal, Shweta Menon, Jagathy Sreekumar, Zeenath, Padmapriya, Siddique, Lakshmy Gopalaswamy, TG Ravi etc.

The film has a great plot, a good screenplay, and could have been a cult classic if it was directed by some experienced director. I'm not saying it is a bad film, but it could have been better if handled by somebody else...

The dialogues were top-notch, and the dubbing artists also did a wonderful job (The actress Zeenath rendered her voice for Shweta Menon in the movie)
Some excellent situations in the movie were:
1. 'Thattam Pidichu' song
2. Mohanlal's first return from Karachi
3. Mohanlal trying to escape from Police towards the climax.

Coming to the performances, Mohanlal is stunning, what an actor!!!
He has magic in each of his expressions...
Shweta Menon was also equally good, she is highly underrated actress, i guess..
Among the others, all did well, some scenes were highly dramatic, and some expressions of TG Ravi were also somewhat dramatic..
Nevertheless, it is a very good cinematic experience, go buy a DVD and watch it, otherwise download it and enjoy!!!

Crook Hindi Music Review

Poster

Director: Mohit Suri
Starring: Emraan Hashmi, Neha Sharma
Music: Pritam
Lyrics: Kumaar

The expectations from a Bhatt-Mohit Suri-Emraan Hashmi combo is sky high, I am not sure whether this album lives up to the expectation…

Challa - Babbu Mann, Suzanne D'Mello.
One of the most powerful songs ever heard…
Superb recreation of the famous Punjabi folk song.
Babbu Mann just rocked with his powerful voice…
9/10.

Mere Bina - Nikhil D'Souza
Kya - Neeraj Sridhar
Tujhi Mein - KK
Tujhko Jo Paaya - Mohit Chauhan
Tujhi Mein (Reprise) - KK
Mere Bina (Unplugged) – KK.

Really unable to write single review for all these tracks with confusing reprises, unplugged etc, all of them are highly Pritam-ish, even after 8-10 times of listening, cant differentiate between the songs, the things may be better once the videos are out…

Overall rating is 6/10.

Aashayein Movie Review

Aashayein Movie Poster

Director: Nagesh Kukunoor
Cast: John Abraham, Anaita Nair, Girish Karnad, Farida Jalal, Sonal Sehgal

Almost a classic, easily one of the best from Nagesh Kukunoor, IMO.
John Abraham was great, but the real show stealer was Anaita Nair, one of the 5 band members we saw in By The People!!!
That girl has so much potential within...

There were so many symbolic scenes, the film dragged a bit in last 10 min, but it was okay, no problem...

The concept of Indiana Jones in the film will seem brilliant once you come to know what the director really meant, height of Symbolism!!!!
WoW!!!!

Great music, the Pritam tracks were not included in the movie, though...

On the whole, highly underrated, IMO.

Aakrosh 2010 Music Review

Aakrosh Poster

Director: Priyadarshan
Cast: Ajay Devgan, Akshay Khanna, Bipasha Basu, Paresh Rawal, Reema Sen
Lyrics: Irshad Kaamil
Music: Pritam

We expect purely situational tracks from a movie like Aakrosh, after seeing the sepia-toned, dark theatrical trailer of this movie.
But then the name ‘Pritam’ is seen, and we expect something then.
Well, there are 5 original tracks, along with one song coming in 2 more versions and another in 1 more version.

Isak Se Meetha- Kalpana Patowary & Ajay Jhingran .
The opening song, an item number with Sameera Reddy dancing doesn’t disappoint the listeners, the song is in the same genre of that ‘billo’ type songs, with people praising the ‘pole girl’ then and there…
An ok-ok track, may become a hit… The track comes as some other version and a remix later in the album.
6.5/10.

Saude Bazi- Anupam Amod :: Saude Bazi (Encore)- Javed Ali .Superbbbbb tracks!!! Loved the track from the beginning itself… The not-so conventional type singing, Both the versions, sung respectively by Anupam Amod and Javed Ali are equally superb!!! Surely going to be my favourite the coming days..
9.5/10.

Man Ki Mat- Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.
Another excellent track, Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan does it again!!! Brilliantly arranged, excellently performed by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, this is a gem for me!! Excellent lyrics also.
9/10.

Sasural Munia- Shreya Ghoshal .
Shreya Ghoshal’s solo number, another item song or dance song, seems to be.. Okay song, but it will be easily sidelined in the album due to the previous tracks.
5.5/10.

Ramkatha- Sukhwinder Singh.

The Ramkatha song, performed by Sukhvinder Singh is composed in a traditional manner, the genre of songs we can listen in Folk Dance competitions and all. The song may be used in some important situation of the movie.
7/10.

On the whole, Pritam is more into experiments nowadays, we can clearly know it from ‘Saude Bazi’ of this album. Good work Pritam, .
My picks are obviously the 2 versions of ‘Saude Bazi’ and ‘Man Ki Mat’.
Overall rating is 7/10.

Jhootha Hi Sahi Music Review

Jhootha Hi Sahi Poster

Director, Lyrics: Abbas Tyrewala
Starring: John Abraham, Pakhi Tyrewala, Anaita Nair, Raghu Ram
Music: AR Rahman

Another Rahman album, this time with ‘Jaane tu…’ director ‘Abbas Tyrewala’. I wanted something better than the hyped (IMO) album ‘Jaane Tu..’. The first song I got was ‘Cry Cry’, from Nokia OVI store, it sounded pretty good… So waited for the album and downloaded it.

Note: All say that we need to listen to Rahman’s compositions many times, then only they will grow in you. But that applies to his average songs only. No need of repeated listening for his good compositions, which are sadly less, these days… In 2010, I liked ‘Hosanna’, ‘Behne De’, ‘Khili Re’ (to an extent), ‘Ranjha Ranjha’ (to an extent), ‘Cry Cry’, ‘Maiyyaa Yasoda’… And I believe if I liked ‘Beera Beera’ or ‘Thok De Gilli’ later, it was because of repeated telecasting in TV. A good song takes no time to grow in me, and only an average song need the support of video and the star value in the video.

Cry Cry- Rashid Ali, Shreya Ghoshal.
The song starts well, despite of the somewhat ’Totla’ voice of Rashid Ali, the song manages well to make us feel good in the first listening itself…
The tune of the starting line holds a very very vague resemblance to ‘Tujhe Aksa Beach Ghuma Doon’ from ’God Tussi Great Ho’, but no problem the song is very good…
8.5/10.

Maiyya Yashoda- Javed Ali, Chinmayi.
The second song of the album, the ‘Jamuna Mix’ is very good and enjoyable at the first listening itself…
Chinmayi’s voice is sweet, and Javed Ali also performs well. The song later comes as a ‘Thames Mix’, couldn’t identify much difference with the ‘Jamuna Mix’ except for the ending portion. Special mention to the beautiful lyrics.
9.5/10.

Hello Hello- Karthik.
This song is not that catchy, everything is fine, but it didn’t make much of an impact even after 2-3 listenings, the instruments are used well, and the use of various telephone sounds here and there is brilliant. One good portion of the song is ‘Mujhe Chhod Do, Mujhe Dhaam Lo…’.
6.5/10.

Do Nishaniyan- Sonu Nigam.
This is another uninteresting song for me, neither of the two versions make any impact on mind.. It may grow after a few more listenings, but chances are less for me…
5.5/10.

Pam Pa Ra- Shreya Ghoshal.
The song starts with a vague feeling of ‘Saiyyaan’ (U Me Aur Hum- Vishal Bhardwaj) and ‘Zoobi Doobi’ (3 Idiots- Shantanu Moitra) but the song continues well. Performed well by Shreya Ghoshal, ‘The Phenomenon’.
7/10.

I've Been Waiting- Vijay Yesudas.
Vijay Yesudas sings this song quite well, but even this song hardly created an impact in my mind, I had the same feeling before, when I listened to ‘Kites in the Sky’ (Kites- Rajesh Roshan).
5/10.

Call Me Dil- Rashid Ali.
This song is okay, may grow after few more listenings, the main portion ‘Call Me Dil’ is catchy…
7/10.

On the whole, 2 excellent tracks, Overall rating is 7/10.

The Film Emotional Atyachar Movie Review

Director: Akshay Shere
Cast: Anand Tiwari, Kalki Koechlin, Mohit Alawat, Nassar Abdulla, Pankaj Kalra etc
Music Director: Mangesh Dhadke

The movie’s title is quite ambiguous, as there is a popular stupid TV show called ‘The Emoional Attyachar season 2’.
This movie has, thankfully, nothing to do with that show, there is no much reason for the title, except for one emotional cheating.
The movie makes us confused in the first hour, with some characters and their lives, but no interconnection between the scenes…
But in the latter half, the movie unfolds in a beautiful manner, and by the time everything is clear to the audience, we might also have got attached with atleast some of the characters of the movie.

Coming to the performances, everybody did decent jobs, Vinay Pathak, Ranvir Shorey, Kalki Koechlin, Ravi Kishan, Mohit Ahlavat all did well.
Ravi Kishan is getting stereotyped to this kind of roles, suits him, though..
The goons with Ravi Kishan was also good, don’t know their names…
The movie is a different approach, try watching it…
I am not saying it’s a must watch and all, but still, enjoyable movie…
6.5/10

Lafangey Parindey Movie Review

Lafangey Parindey Movie Poster

Director: Pradip Sarkar
Cast: Neil Nitin Mukesh, Deepika Padukone, Piyush Mishra, Namit Das, Kay Kay Menon

Good attempt from Pradip Sarkar, decent performances from the lead pair...
Okayish songs were nicer in the movie.
The reality show concept is a cliched one, but ok, lets leave it....

An abv. avg- good movie, overall....

Sita Sings The Blues Movie Review

Basic Plot: Valmiki
Everything else: Neena Paley

The animation looked good, amidst of all the 3D movies these days...
The movie was also good, and the way they narrated it was also nice...
The now- and then english songs bored me a little, though....

There was a great song, about Sri Rama, i really wonder why RSS people didnt take any action against Nina Paley, the mother of the movie...

9/10
(8 for the movie, and +1 for the effort Nina Paley took, for making this movie reach the public....)

Dabangg Movie Review

Director: Abhinav Singh Kashyap
Cast: Salman Khan, Arbaaz Khan, Sonu Sood, Sonakshi Sinha, Vinod Khanna, Dimple Kapadia, Mahesh Manjarekar

Mindless entertainer, the movie has all chances to become an all time blockbuster...
Abhinav Singh Kashyap gets an excellent launch...
Its Salman Khan everywhere, totally Salman, Salman, Salman...
Among others, all did well, Sonakshi Sinha had not much role...
The script has some flaws, but we dont care about them, because of the amazing wall, Salman!!

One notable scene to prove the director was the one in which Salman wears the glass to hide his tears...
Dialogues have punch in them....

Sure BB...
4/5

PS: expected a Golmaal 3 theatrical in the show, but disappointed...
they skipped the trailers....

Hello Darling Movie Review

Director: Manoj Tiwari
Cast: Jaaved Jaffrey, Gul Panag, Celina Jeitley, Eesha Koppikar, Sunny Deol

The movie is an illegal adaptation of some hollywood movie, which Kamalhaasan had earlier copied to Tamil.
When you copy something, do it properly, in an entertaining manner.
Here, the director Manoj Tiwari failed even to do that.
The only grace was the good performance from Javed Jaffery.
Everything else was a burden, from Divya Dutta’s Gujrati accent to Celina Jeitley’s stupid gestures, and Pritam’s songs, except one song…
Gul Panag and Esha Kopikar were kinda ok, but Celina Jeitley spoiled the show with her crappy acting..
And the couple Celina-Chunkey Pandey was quite ironically funny, like Vivek-Trisha in Tamil.
:P

Sunny Deol's cameo created no impact....
On the whole, an interesting concept spoiled by an uninteresting script and below average performances…

We Are Family Movie Review

Poster

Director: Siddharth P Malhotra
Cast: Kajol Devgan, Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Rampal

I haven’t watched Stepmom, so cant compare this with the original…
Anyway, this itself is a very good movie you can watch with your family or your spouse.
This is not a kind of full entertainment movie, of course, the movie has its light moments, but the main task is far more than brainless entertainment…

Siddharth Malhotra, the debutant did a very good job as the director.
Performance wise, Kareena and Kajol were equally good, both of them acted very very well…
Arjun Rampal was also good, he did complete justice to the character..
In fact, he is one of the very few actors in Indian film industry, who can portray this role…
The kids were very good, especially, the eldest girl. Some of her expressions were just WoWWW!!!
The youngest girl was so cute, she was like a doll in Bumm Bumm Bole also…
The other child, the boy was also good, don’t know why, he did not get that much role as of the other two.

Music department, not so great…
I saw many people praising a song Hamesha & Forever, I didn’t feel anything for the song…
In fact, the other songs like Aankhon Mein Neendein, Reham O Karam and Let’s Rock were nice…

A good movie, on the whole..
8.5/10

Piranha 2D Movie Review

Poster

Director: Alexandre Aja
Cast: Many animated Piranhas, Elisabeth Shue, Adam Scott, Jerry O'Connell, Ving Rhames, Jessica Szohr etc

In June, i watched a movie Mirrors.
After that, i searched about that in the net, and from wikipedia, i came to know that the director is doing a 3d film Piranha.
That time little i thought even in my dreams that i would watch that movie in a multiplex, in Bangalore!!

1 week after that, the company im working in now asked me to join the company, and i shifted to bangalore in june last week..
I had forgotten about Piranha, and i wanted 'Kajraare' to be the first film i watch from a multiplex..
But situations got worse and Kajraare was postponed, and on friday i read a review about Piranha here...
I wanted to watch a bloodshed movie in 3D, so i badly wanted to watch it as soon as possible...
I booked the ticket, and i went for the show...

Damn, it was 2D here...
:(

Anyway, i managed to getr in and sit...
The hall had, apart from me, 3 couples only..

Film started..
Lot of bikinis, and it didnt really meet my expectations...
I wanted to watch some real violence and blood, but this was more skinshow and less violence...

Anyway, i liked the ending of the movie...

Ok-ok movie, hmm, we cant expect more from the director of the 'Mirrors'

5/10

Tere Bin Laden Movie Review

Poster

Director:
Abhishek Sharma
Cast: Ali Zafar, Pradhuman Singh, Sugandha Garg, Piyush Mishra etc

Super film in all aspects...
Usually, almost every good film starts well, but lags a little in its second hour...
Even after this much efforts, most of the film makers are not able to overcome this problem...
You can see a lag somewhere, in almost every film, whether its a classic or a crap...

But, surprisingly Tere Bin Laden never showed such a trend, i dont remember which was the previous film that entertained me this much...

The protagonist Ali Zafar is a complete discovery!!!
Heard he is doing next film with Yashraj Films...
All the best Ali, musically you are a genius, now you proved that acting wise also you are great...
we want to see you more on screen..

And Pradhuman Singh, who portrayed Noora (Laden) is perfect, and very good in his role...
All other people were also very good...

I dont want to say more, such films happen VERY VERY Rarely....
DO NOT MISS SUCH GEMS AT ANY COST...

Aashayein Music Review

Poster

Director: Nagesh Kukunoor
Starring: John Abraham, Sonal Sehgal, Girish Karnad, Anaita Nair etc.

Music: Pritam, Salim Merchant-Sulaiman Merchant, Shiraz Uppal

The movie Aashayein was shot around 2-3 years back, but due to some issues, was delayed.
I was curious about the music of Aashayein, when i saw a song of it in TV randomly.
The song featured Pritam and Neeraj Shridhar singing something, and it felt like usual Pritam-ish composition.
Later i downloaded the songs and started listening.

Mera Jeena Hai Kya- Neeraj Shridhar ( Music: Pritam ).
A good song which grows on you, the growing instrumentals in the background are awesome, and Neeraj Shridhar has sung it well.. Some portions are so Pritam-ish but still the song is a good composition, and the lyrics are also equally good.
7.5/10.

Dilkash Dildaar Duniya- Shaan, Tulsi Kumar ( Music: Pritam ).
Somewhat horrible, with the bad voice of Tulsi Kumar and some cliche lyrics.
The title portion of the song is very good, but song doesnt come to that level...
Tulsi Kumar gave us a fantastic 'Tum Jo Aaye' before a month, but this is sung so badly by her.
4/10.

Rabba- Shiraz Uppal.
Above average track, i havent listened it more that 4-5 times...
Not that much addictive, but still a honest attempt..
5.5/10

Ab Mujhko Jeena- Zubeen (Music: Salim-Sulaiman).
Wooooooooooooooooooooow!!!!! Lovvvvvvve this song...
Excellently performed by Zubeen, this song is very good.
Salim-Sulaiman's potential is revealed again..
8/10.

Shukriya Zindagi- Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan (Music: Salim-Sulaiman).
Goddddd!!!! Another gem again!!!
Great song with great lyrics, great style of singing and great music..
Simply great!!!
The remix also rocks!!!
9.5/10.

Pal Mein Mila Jahan- Shreya Ghoshal/ Shankar Mahadevan (Music: Salim-Sulaiman).
Boring song, both the versions seemed quite boring...
3/10.

Chala Aaya Pyar- Mohit Chauhan (Music: Salim-Sulaiman).
Another excellent song sung by Mohit Chauhan, very good in all aspects...
9/10.

On the whole, its a very good album...
Gems: Ab Mujhko Jeena, Shukriya Zindagi, Chala Aaya Pyar.
PS: The lyrics by Mir Ali Husain and Sameer are excellent, too!!!!

Overall Rating: 7.5/10.
