Admissions Open Movie Review

Poster

Director: KD Sathyam
Cast: Ankur Khanna, Anupam Kher, Ashish Vidyarthi, Arshi etc.

Admissions Open boasts of a strong cast and crew, Anupam Kher, Rati Agnihotri, Ashish Vidyarthi, and music by the mastero Amit Trivedi. Also, it is about the defects of the current education system, which is intended more towards the grades and marks, than the talents. But, a one-line idea which sounds great may not work well, when it comes to a 2+ hour movie. The screenplay matters, and that is where This movie fails miserably. The movies tries out something, and ends up nowhere.

So, the concept of studying whatever one wants, in an ‘Open University’ sounds innovative, but the methodologies used to implement that are ridiculous. It seems so stupid at times, like ma=king our own subjects and making our own curriculum.

And the writer has blatantly lifted some portions from Chetan Bhagat’s ‘Five Point Someone’, a guy who wants to study engineering, with a paralysed father and a hard-earning school teacher-mother, and a sister. However, the house of that guy is very large, don’t know how. May be his dad got paralysed recently only. Also, the Villain professor sequence is there in the movie, the professor against his son’s wish to become musician, and wants his son to join IIT, and the bechaara son eventually commits suicide. It was writer in book, and musician in film, that’s the difference.

The hero has got some talent, but sadly he has nothing to do because of the weak script. He, even with his below- average looks, manages to do well. Ashish Vidyarthy is an excellent actor, he does well, but is having the same expression throughout the film. Anupam Kher does his part well.

Special mention about the villain of the film. That guy is a student in india’s top engineering college, and look at his costume!! He looks straight out of an Amul frenchie ad.!! Is there any pre condition that the villain should be in that kind of dress only???

Another guy who deserves special mention is the one with a long knife, who wants to be a ‘Bhai’. He looks stupid with his 2003-John Abraham like hairstyle, and his knife, or whatever it is, looks totally fake.. And there is a sidekick for this gut, looking like Rajpal Yadav getting The Great Khali as the sidekick!!!

Another great talent is the heroine. :P She is so unique, that we cant expect such bad acting from anybody else. She is expressionless, and moreover, is ugly-looking. Things would have been better if some good-looking girl was casted in place of her. Horrible looks and acting.. :(

The remaining cast was okay, and the music by Amit Trivedi is okay. The BGM was good at places.

The movie is somewhat okay towards the last 10 minutes, but that is not enough for the viewers. The movie neitner satisfies the critics, nor the reviewers. Bad attempt!!

4/10
