Knock Out Music Review

Poster

Director: Mani Shankar
Cast: Sanjay Dutt, Irrfan, Kangana Ranaut
Music: Gourav Das Gupta, Sanjeev Darshan (one song)

Knock Out, the unofficial (rather illegal) remake of the hollywood flick, ‘Phone Booth’ has five original tracks.
I haven’t watched Phone Booth yet, so I will have to watch this movie, once it gets released.
The music director Gourav Das Gupta had given some impressive tracks for the film ‘Aa Dekhen Zara’ last year, the Lounge version of ‘Zara’ was really a haunting track. Also, the tracks like ‘Ghazab’, ‘Mohabbat Aapse’ were also good, and the listeners are sure to have an expectation about his current outing. Also, with names like ‘Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’, ‘KK’, etc, we do expect some pretty decent tracks which can chill our minds for a while…
So let’s see how the tracks are.

Knock Out- Vishal Dadlani
The starting track of the album is pretty boring, with the usual Vishal Dadlani style f singing, it is not at all an interesting track to listen. Also, the video of the song, being aired in TV is equally, or even more irritating, with its crap sets and guitar and all.
4/10

Khushnuma Sa- Rahat Fateh Ali Khan/ Krishna (2 versions)
These tracks show Gourav Das Gupta’s ability in this soft melody-kinda genre, it is a feel good track with apt instrumentation. Ustad’s version and Krishna’s version are equally good, But I really fear Ustad is getting tooo stereotypic. Try something new, man!!!
7/10

Jab Jab Dil Mile- Sunidhi Chauhan
Another i-don’t-like-it song, but it seems to come out pretty good in TV, atleast for a couple of weeks, if the video is good. Don’ know why all albums need such an unwanted track, it was ‘Pam Para Para’ for Jhootha Hi Sahi, now this…. Sunidhi Chauhan tries to make it feel good, but sadly I don’t feel it good enough!
And nothing more to mention about the remix too.
5/10

Tu Hi Mere Hum Nawaa- KK
This is quite funny, one likeable song, one ignorable song, one likeable song again!!
This falls into the likeable section, with the KK factor in it. Average in terms of orchestration and all, but somewhat good.
6.5/10

Gangubai Pe Aai Jawani- Sumita, Sanjeev Darshan
Now this ‘Gangubai’ track by Sanjeev Darshan, presumably the item number of the film, is slightly above average. Song isn’t that great, but still its somewhat ok-ok. These singers are new it seems, but somehow manages to bring a feeling that is supposed to be there in the song. Its high time bollywood has some really good item number, recent ones like the over-hyped ‘Munni’ or the ok-ok ‘Isak Se Meetha’ don’t make much of an impact…
5.5/10

On the whole, Gourav Das Gupta disappointed me to an extent. Barring the Khushnuma Sa and Tu Hi Mere Hum Nawaa, the remaining tracks are not worth repeated listening. They may be better when the videos are out, but the songs lack the power. Come on Gupta, pump up some power into the songs, like you did in the Neil Nitin Mukesh version of ‘Zara’!!

Overall rating is 6/10
My picks are Khushnuma Sa (both versions) and Tu Hi Mere Hum Nawaa.
