Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey Music Review

Director: Ashhutosh Gowariker
Cast: Abhishek Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Sikandar Kher etc
Music: Sohail Sen
Instrumental works: Simaab Sen

The expectation from the songs of an Ashutosh Gowariker film is enormous, and when the name Sohail Sen is seen in the Music department, the expectations simply double up, considering the great tracks he gave us for ‘What’s Your Raashee’ last year. Now, the question is, whether the OST of Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey lives upto the expectations? Well, let’s have a look at the tracks..

Yeh Des Hai Mera- Sohail Sen
The opening track, performed by Sohail Sen himself, is an instantly likeable song. The song is good and the instrumentations are apt. Sohail Sen carries the right mood for the song. The ‘Vandemataram’ portion in the middle is awesme. This is a good track.
7/10

Naiyn Tere- Pamela Jain, Ranjini Jose
Now comes another loveable song. Performed by Malayalam singer Ranjini Jose and Pamela Jain, it is a beautiful song, I hope the song is picturised nicely. The surprise is the sweet voice of Ranjini Jose, which is quiet unusal!! Comparing her previous works in Malayalam, this is really the Ranjini Jose Version 2, and obviously this version is really good!! Pamela Jain is also equally, or even more good.
8.5/10

Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey
The title track of the movie grows in the listeners from the first listening itself. My real confusion is, Why on earth SURESH WADKAR is credited for this song???? It is a big question, even though the entire song is sung by the chorus, except for a whistle portion somewhere in the song, Suresh Wadkar is given the solo credit for singing. Is he the guest composer or something?? So confusing, but still the title track is at the right chord, it is good.
7.5/10

Sapne Saloney- Sohail Sen & Pamela Jain
The track is most interesting in the Pamela Jain portions, the ‘Pa Ni Sa Pa Dha Ni’ portion is simply beautiful, I expect lot of people keeping that portion as their ringtone, if the song hits the right place, in the hearts of people!!
6.5/10

Vande Mataram (Revised)- Cine Singers Assosiation
Now, this song is a hindi version of the National song Vandemataram. Excellent work, especially lyrics are great. The music is also good, I appreciate Sohail Sen’s attempt to re-compose the great song. Truly a song that makes you feel like being proud of an Indian.
8/10

Long Live Chittagong- Instrumental
The Teenagers Whistle- Instrumental
Surjya's Sorrow- Instrumental
Vande Mataram- Instrumental
The Escape- Instrumental

Now we have a bunch of instrumentals, all of them are awesome and are different from each other. This is an area where a composer can show his talent, and Simaab Sen has proved that he is simply great.

Naiyn Tere (Sad)- Pamela Jain
Revolutionary Comrades- Sohail Sen

These are two Unplugged Instrumental versions, and they are also good. Now, this attempt of giving the nstruments a domination over the singer’s voice in the unplugged version is a new trend, it is good.

On the whole, KHJJS is different from What’s Your Raashee, this has got some more serious songs, and some awesome instrumental works. Sohail Sen and Simaab Sen, you both rock!!

My ratings for Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey as an entire OST is 7.5/10

Benny and Babloo Movie Review

Benny and Babloo Movie Poster
Director: Yunus Sajawal
Cast: Kay Kay Menon, Rajpal Yadav, Riya Sen, Richa Chadda, Anita Hassandani, Hiten Paintal, Shweta Tiwari etc

Films like Benny and Babloo are a part of industry. They come without large promotion, no big stars, no item songs or skin shows to grab people’s attention, but such films will be having a simple plot. Such movies are not that great, but the final result will be a smile on the audiences’ faces. Yes, these movies never disappoint, because there is no much expectation linked to them. Benny and Babloo is a simple film, about two friends, Bennykkutty and Babloo.
The movie starts when these two people get jobs in two places, one a five-star hotel and other a ladies bar. Initially, Benny is proud that he is working as a bellboy in a fivestar hotel, and he often teases Babloo for working as a waiter in a ‘gira hua’ ladies bar. But, gradually Benny comes to know the real faces of the people in the hotel, the activities going on there.
The story has many other characters also. There are around 10 women in the Ladies Bar, there are people in Hotel, there is a struggling actor, a corrupt polititian etc etc. Most of the characters are well-developed, and therefore doesn’t irritate us at any situation. There are some situations which moists our eyes, over all the movie makes us feel good, and also makes us think about what is happening in the society.
The lead artists Kay Kay Menon and Rajpal Yadav perform equally well. Both are excellent in their roles. Among the other cast, everybody is good. The actress who played the eldest woman in the ladies bar deserves special mention.
There is no much scope for music in the movie, and the cinematography is ordinary. On the whole, this is a simple film which can be watched. It is not a must watch, but it is worth a watch.
6.5/10

Jhootha Hi Sahi Movie Review

Director: Abbas Tyrewala
Cast: John Abraham, Pakhi Tyrewala, Alisha Warde, Raghu Ram, Mansi Scott, R Madhavan, Nandana Sen

Something is wrong. Yes, something is terribly wrong. Either there is a problem with me, or there is a problem with the majority of Indian audience. I’m saying this, because I loved this film. Yes, you heard it right, I loved this film which most of you called crap and time waste stuff. When you people can accept the recycled, re-re-re-re-re-used, clichéd, melodramatic Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, why cant you accept this fresh and beautiful Jhootha Hi Sahi??
I still remember, Jaane Tu Yaa Jaane Na was 70% ‘Niram’ (It’s a Malayalam Movie released in 1998, and later remade to Hindi as Tujhe Meri Kasam with Reitesh Deshmukh and Genelia D’zouza). The rest 30% was the Khan brothers comedy, the Photoframe-dad portion, and all. In fact, apart from these two things, the movie was a crap. Then how did it become such a success? The answer is simple, there are big names behind. Aamir Khan, and his nephew Khan making a debut. Then AR Rahman, the Mozart of Madras. And what the makers did is, from the beginning they brought a false sensation of youthness and freshness in the movie, so that all the youth got attracted. It even had a song of heroine being sad because of her cat’s death, and hero making her happy. Also, there was a ‘Pappu’ song, in which Pappu danced quite well, though. Then there was sister-brother-chooha fight, search for a girl, the new girl episode, self realization and mutual understanding, airport singing!! That’s all!! I still wonder why this went out to be a big hit!!

But, Jhootha Hi Sahi has no Pappu song, there are no FUNNY moments (if you think JTJYN had funny moments), Jhootha Hi Sahi is a honest attempt from a director who badly wants to come out of the clichéd world and do something new and innovative. People had drawn parallels with the 2002 film ‘University’, I don’t know, I haven’t watched that film. But, this is a very good film, and I feel pity about the audience and the critics who gave a thumb down to the movie.

The movie is fresh, the performances are nice, and it offers atleast 3-4 good songs. The song lyrics are penned according to the situations, and the entire movie is shot well. The only drawbacks one can find are Mansi Scott who played John Abraham’s girlfriend, she acted well, but didn’t look good. Also, the climax of bridge opening and John jumping, etc were usual bollywood stuff. But, apart from that, it is a very good movie.

The performances are awesome. While John Abraham shines in his new avatar, the real showstealer is Pakhi Tyrewala, who surprises us with a fine performance, and well written dialogues. Among the other cast, Raghu Ram is awesome!! Also, Alishka Varde and George Young shared very good chemistry. The cameos by Madhavan and Nandana Sen were nice.

The music, as I had reviewed earlier, is good. There are good songs in the movie, and they are placed at apt places. Even the song ‘Pam para’ looked okay on screen, which otherwise I don’t like.

On the whole, I loved the movie when I watched it. It is very sad thing that such a good movie flopped severely at box office. :(

The Uninvited Movie Review

Directors: The Guard Brothers
Cast: Emily Browning, David Strathairn, Arielle Kebbel, Elizabeth Banks etc

The Uninvited is an American remake of a Korean film of the same name. Korean remakes are mostly good, and there is no exception for ‘The Uninvited. It is good, it has got some creepy moments, and most importantly it has got an excellent ending. It is so good, that the movie will stay in our minds for days, even after watching it. Apparently, the Indian film ‘Hide& Seek’ has inspired a little from the suspense this film showcases in its end, and it was also a very good thriller.
To be frank, Uninvited is more of a thriller, than a horror movie. It is not stretched out long, to make the audience get bored, it has a handy duration of 80 minutes, and the director is able to express what he has in mind, in these 80 minutes.

The lead girl is beautiful, and enacts her part well. The ‘villain’ lady is also good. Also, all other artists have done their roles well. The cinematography has nothing special to be mentioned, the BGM is good.

On the whole, The Uninvited is an awesome movie with a fantastic ending. Watch it, you will know!!

Hisss Movie Review

Director: Jennifer Lynch
Cast: Mallika Sherawat, Irrfan Khan, Divya Dutta etc

A movie about the vengeance of the snakes, interesting!! As we are brought up in a society in which snakes are devoted, the plot of a snake vengeance seems interesting!
So I booked a seat for Hiss at Innovative Multiplex, Marthahalli, for 2.15 show, on Saturday. I had to watch Rakht Charitra at 5.00 from the same place, so I was a little worried about the duration of the movie. Anyway, I got late, took a quick bath at 1.30 and ran to bus stop, bought a bottle of Slice and Bingo as I hadn’t had anything from the morning. Due to high traffic, I could reach there at 2.27 only.. I ran to the place, got the ticket, and entered the hall. Nothing was visible, except a yellow ‘V/U’ certificate, I asked the guy standing at door to show me my seat. He told, ‘koi problem nahi, aap kahin bhi baith sakte hain!’. Yes, the hall was almost empty, and I got a seat. I looked at the screen, it was beautiful, awesome!! I don’t know how to explain, it was so nice with stunning visuals. But I wondered whether the resolution of the movie was not 16:9, it was 4:3! Later only, I realised that it was a short film on ‘Kerala Tourism’!!! :P

Anyway, the movie started, and it wasn’t as bad as critics said. Hisss is not at all a great movie, but it is not the worst one too!! There have been more worse films than Hisss, In fact, it is a watchable one, in my opinion. It is not so convincing at several places, but still we can watch it. It certainly has more standards than a B-grade movie. Hiss could have been much better if the director worked a little more harder on the script. Also, the place where it is taking place arises many confusions. In one scene, we can see ‘Amrita TV’ news reporters and an old woman speaking Malayalam, indicating that it takes place in Kerala. But, all other common people speak Hindi only.

Mallika Sherawat did her role well, her snake-teeth is not looking much original, though!! Irrfan Khan was okay, and all others were alright. The lovemaking scene between Ms. Sherawat and the Snake was very funny!! :P

On the whole, it is a one-time watch, atleast when the DVD comes…

Rakht Charitra 1 Movie Review

Director: Ram Gopal Varma
Cast: Vivek Oberoi, Shatrughan Sinha, Abhimanyu Singh, Sushant Singh, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Radhika Apte, Zarina Wahab, Ashwini Kalsekar, Ashish Vidyarthi, etc

RGV did it again!! Rakht Charitra can be easily mentioned as one of the best of RGV, or even one of the best in the history of ‘Dark Cinema’. The direction is top notch, the dialogues are hard-hitting, and the performances are extremely natural and great. Rakht Charitra has all those elements in the right place, to make it a classic. The movie is flawless, fast-paced, and freakingly violent! Yes, the weak-hearted better stay away from this flick!!

Rakht Charitra is about an era, where it was believed that ‘Revenge is the purest emotion’, rather than ‘An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind’. It is about Pratap Ravi, one with a strong heart. After he loses his father and brother in the dirty game of Politics, he decides to take revenge, and the real Rakht Charitra begins. There is a lot of tears in the movie, tears of downtrodden mothers and wives, tears of abused and exploited sisters, but there is even more blood in the movie, which takes the revenge to all the tears shed. But, do not expect a mindless movie with blood only, it has a strong storyline, without which, the movie would have been a forgettable offering from RGV. But this has the story, and is executed extremely well, and it has turned out to be a must watch for people who watch movies with true spirit.

Vivek Oberoi is in his top-form, he does the role of the lead protagonist Pratap Ravi with ease, he is excellent in his role. Look at his eyes, the way he looks, gazes and stares, you will realize it!! And Abhimanyu Singh, he is damn great!! Excellent acting, it is fact that villains in RGV flicks will be notorious, but this guy is great, he is excellent in his role. Sushant Singh was awesome in his scenes, I had a strong sensation of clapping loudly, while watching him walk in slow motion. Shatrughan Sinha is good, Zarina Wahab, Radhika Apte, Ashwini Kalsekar, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Rajendra Gupta, Anupam Shyam all were good. Sudeep and Darshan Jariwala, I guess is reserved for the 2nd ‘Adhyay’ of Rakht charitra.

I really want to point out some scenes that prove the director’s excellence, but it may lead to spoilers, so I’m not going to do it now. The only negative I could find is RGV’s voice, which lacked high power. However, all I can say is watch the movie, you won’t be disappointed. I'm eagerly waiting for Nov 19 now, for Rakht Charitra 2. The movie has got the power, it is not just a movie, it is EPIC!!!

The Train Movie Review

Directors: Raksha Mistry and Hasain Hyderabadwala
Cast: Emraan Hashmi, Geeta Basra, Sayali Bhagat, Aseem Merchant, Suresh Menon etc

The Train, an illegal adaptation of 'Derailed', is a good attempt from the director duo, Raksha Mistry and Hasain Hyderabadwala.
The movie hits the right chord, it is emotional, has good songs, and carries a brilliant performance by the male protagonist Emraan Hashmi. However, the second lead lady, 'Sayali Bhagat' is below average, acting wise. She is not able to carry out several sequences properly. The first lead lady Geeta Basra, on the other hand, is surprisingly good at her role. Suresh Menon is irritating in most of the scenes. The villain Aseem Merchant is awesome. And the climax is excellent.

The music by Mithoon is another big plus point, he is a very good composer, for sure. Thought 3 songs sounded similar, they were nice.

On the whole, The Train is a good movie, worth a watch.

6.5/10

Fun fact: there are two more adaptations for 'Derailed', a Tamil film 'Pachaikili Muthucharam' and a Sinhala film 'Dakina Dakina Mal'.

Good Boy Bad Boy Movie Review

Director: Ashwini Chaudhary
Cast: Emraan Hashmi, Tusshar Kapoor, Isha Sherwani, Tanushree Dutta, Paresh Rawal etc

Well, honestly I had no expectations for this movie, I expected a movie full of college clichés, but surprisingly it turned out to be worth a watch, with honest performances from the lead actors. The irritating factor in the movie was Tanushree Dutta, she doesn’t look good on screen. The music by Himesh Reshammiya was also good, two-three songs were really nice. Emraan Hashmi’s hairstyle did not suit him, but otherwise, everything was fine. On the whole, it is a one time watch movie.

6.5/10

PS: College villains are always straight from the Amul Frenchie Ads, don’t know why!!!

Lahore Movie Review

Director: Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan
Cast: Aanaahad, Sushant Singh, Nafisa Ali, Ashish Vidyarthi, Farooque Sheikh, Shraddha Das, Shraddha Nigam etc

Lahore, the directorial venture by Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan is cliched, highly predictable at times, having lot of flaws, etc etc.. But despite of all these shortcomings, it manages to moisten the viewers’ eyes towards the ending. ‘An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind’, the quote of Mahatma Gandhi, is well depicted in the movie, and that alone is a reasonable factor to watch the movie.

Lahore is about two brothers, and two countries, too. The story has nothing so new, it goes as expected by the viewers, the director has managed to execute it in a not-so boring manner, that he saves it from being called as a Documentary.

The performances are fine, the main protagonist Aanaahad is a look-alike of Randeep Hooda, he does his part well, Sushant Singh was good, Farooque Sheikh, Nafisa Ali, Mukesh Rishi, Shraddha Nigam all were good, and special mention to Shraddha Das, she looked like the mock-female roles Shreyas Talpade and Reitesh Deshmukh had played in their previous films.

The music by MM Kreem is average, and the cinematography is fine.

On the whole, Lahore is a good movie with an awesome, fantastic ending.
Watch it, you will know!!

Lamhaa Movie Review

Director: Rahul Dholakia
Cast: Sajnay Dutt, Kunal Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Anupam Kher, Mahesh Manjarekar etc.

Lamhaa is a sincere attempt, sadly ruined by the not-so engaging screenplay.
Once we are into the movie, we see each and every 'Lamhaa' is lagging, :(
Rahul Dholakia, the national award for his work 'Parzania' has doubtlessly done so much of research for the movie, he deserves appreciation for that, but the way he moulded his research and fiction has terribly gone wrong, resulting what 'Lamhaa' is now.

Lamhaa, as mentioned in the tagline, is obviously the 'Untold story of Kashmir', for it doesn't go much into the natural beauty of Kashmir, which is, otherwise portrayed in every movie based on Kashmir, regardless of whether it is a terrorist story, or whatever. The dialogues are written brilliantly, some one-line dialogues make strong impact in the minds. But the movie as a whole, is a boring affair. Only grace is the climax, the last 10 minutes. The OST was excellently composed by Mithoon, but all of them are not used well in the movie. Salaam Zindagi track is picturised beautifully.

The actors do their part well, all were good in their roles.

On the whole, i can give Lamhaa a 6/10, out of which 4 is for the movie, and an extra 2 for Rahul Dholakia's effort to make the movie.

Naina Movie Review

Director: Shripal Morakhia
Cast: Urmila Matondkar, Anuj Sawhney, Shweta Konnur, Amardeep Jha etc

Being the remake of the 2002 movie ‘The Eye’, ‘Naina’ tells the story of Naina Shah (Urmila Matondkar). The movie is extremely well shot, and considering the fact that it was released in 2005, the work is brilliant. The performances are great, and the only drawback of the movie is, it lacks a tight screenplay. Especially towards the second half, the movie lags at several moments.
However, the movie is far better than most of the so-called horror movies coming these days..
This movie is definitely worth a watch, for Urmila’s stunning performance, for some creepy scenes, and for some excellent visuals.

Crook; Its good to be bad Movie Review

Poster

Director: Mohit Suri
Cast: Emraan Hashmi, Neha Sharma, Arjan Bajwa etc

The only interesting thing in Crook is it is a new movie. The sole reason to watch the movie is the excitement of watching a newly released movie. But, sadly the movie disappoints the viewer. We expect a kind of minimum standard for a movie when it comes from Bhatt camp. Considering the quality of movies which have come out from them in the last few years, One will expect some quality, and Crook never lives upto the expectations. Mohit Suri, the director who gave us Kalyug, Zeher, Awarapan, Raaz-TMC etc fails to impress the viewers this time.
The performances are fine, the new girl Neha Sharma is an invention. She does her part well. Emraan Hashmi was also very good. The fat guy (Imran Khan’s friend in I Hate Luv Storys) got a good role to perform. Arjan Bajwa was good. Rest of the cast was okay. But, a bunch of good performances doesn’t make a good fiom. This shows Mohit Suri’s skill in direction, and weekness in writing. His previous films were adaptations of foreign films, so he directed them well. But when it comes to an original concept, he failed to write a tight screenplay.

The music by Pritam is strictly okay, the ‘Challa’ track stands out. On the whole, Crook disappoints.
“It is good to be bad, but not this worse…”

City Of Gold Movie Review

Poster

Director: Mahesh Manjarekar
Cast: Shashank Shende, Seema Biswas, Veena Jamkar, Sachin Khedekar, Siddharth Jadhav, Satish Kaushik, Kashmira Shah etc

I don’t know how to start my review.. Seriously, I thought of starting like “Damn good work, man!!”, but I don’t know what to write..
Mahesh Manjarekar is one with enormous talents, really!! What a movie, man!! Each character has got depth, brilliant performances, apt lighting, and a tight screenplay. The only drawback to say is that, the movie seems a little bit dramatic at places. Otherwise, the movie deserves 10/10.

Set in the Mumbai of the 1980s, the movie deals with the mill workers’ life , who made the city into what it is now.
The movie is executed brilliantly, damn good!! Mr Manjarekar should direct more movies, we miss your talent, sir!!
The casting is perfect, the performances are very good, Many people are newcomers, I guess from the theatre background. The guys performed well, Siddharth Jadhav was awesome as Speedbreaker. The girl who played Manju was awesome. Seema Biswas is just a WoWWW!!! Excellent performance. Sachin Khedekar was good. Satish Kaushik’s role was very good. Kashmira Shah has got a meatier role to perform this time, and she proves that she can do well in terms of acting also. The rest of the cast was good, the ad-wala guy who played Jignesh was good.

No scope for the music, except for a semi-item song in Marathi, during the credits.

On the whole, Mahesh Manjarekar is a talented director, and he proves it once again in this movie. Very well made movie, watch it!!!

8.5/10

Karam Movie Review

Poster

Director: Sanjay Gupta
Cast: John Abraham, Priyanka Chopra, Shiney Ahuja etc.

Karam is a million times told story, with a serial killer/gangster loving a girl, wishing to leave the underworld for her, the gang leader opposing it, a police officer in between, etc, etc…
The movie has nothing new, the only grace was John Abraham. He did his role well, not so great and all, but he managed to do well. Priyanka Chopra was okay, Shiney Ahuja was very good. The other actors were fine.

It is an ok-ok movie, a one time watch.

Admissions Open Movie Review

Poster

Director: KD Sathyam
Cast: Ankur Khanna, Anupam Kher, Ashish Vidyarthi, Arshi etc.

Admissions Open boasts of a strong cast and crew, Anupam Kher, Rati Agnihotri, Ashish Vidyarthi, and music by the mastero Amit Trivedi. Also, it is about the defects of the current education system, which is intended more towards the grades and marks, than the talents. But, a one-line idea which sounds great may not work well, when it comes to a 2+ hour movie. The screenplay matters, and that is where This movie fails miserably. The movies tries out something, and ends up nowhere.

So, the concept of studying whatever one wants, in an ‘Open University’ sounds innovative, but the methodologies used to implement that are ridiculous. It seems so stupid at times, like ma=king our own subjects and making our own curriculum.

And the writer has blatantly lifted some portions from Chetan Bhagat’s ‘Five Point Someone’, a guy who wants to study engineering, with a paralysed father and a hard-earning school teacher-mother, and a sister. However, the house of that guy is very large, don’t know how. May be his dad got paralysed recently only. Also, the Villain professor sequence is there in the movie, the professor against his son’s wish to become musician, and wants his son to join IIT, and the bechaara son eventually commits suicide. It was writer in book, and musician in film, that’s the difference.

The hero has got some talent, but sadly he has nothing to do because of the weak script. He, even with his below- average looks, manages to do well. Ashish Vidyarthy is an excellent actor, he does well, but is having the same expression throughout the film. Anupam Kher does his part well.

Special mention about the villain of the film. That guy is a student in india’s top engineering college, and look at his costume!! He looks straight out of an Amul frenchie ad.!! Is there any pre condition that the villain should be in that kind of dress only???

Another guy who deserves special mention is the one with a long knife, who wants to be a ‘Bhai’. He looks stupid with his 2003-John Abraham like hairstyle, and his knife, or whatever it is, looks totally fake.. And there is a sidekick for this gut, looking like Rajpal Yadav getting The Great Khali as the sidekick!!!

Another great talent is the heroine. :P She is so unique, that we cant expect such bad acting from anybody else. She is expressionless, and moreover, is ugly-looking. Things would have been better if some good-looking girl was casted in place of her. Horrible looks and acting.. :(

The remaining cast was okay, and the music by Amit Trivedi is okay. The BGM was good at places.

The movie is somewhat okay towards the last 10 minutes, but that is not enough for the viewers. The movie neitner satisfies the critics, nor the reviewers. Bad attempt!!

4/10

Endhiran Movie Review

Poster

Director: Shankar
Cast: Rajinikanth, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Danny Denzongpa, Karunas, Santhanam etc
Music: AR Rahman

Ok, so I watched Endhiran, from here, Bangalore...
I did not have much interest in the movie before the release, don't know why...
But then, my friends who watched it told the movie is very good, so i did not want to miss a good movie!!

Well, the movie is, indeed a good attempt from the director. The gigantic budget of 160 cr. looks somewhat fishy, but forget about all those, the movie is good. It has the emotional moments, funny moments, action sequences, all packed well. The main thing missing in the movie is the ‘Punch’ which is supposed to be there in a Rajinikant movie. Well, the characters are not the ones who crack punch dialogues, like the ones in his previous outings like Padayappa or Sivaji.

The movie is technically brilliant, especially towards the second half.
In the first half, there are some gags in the GFX, to point out one, the fire scene.

The Rajnikanth is a wonder!!! The iron-man, at his 60+ age, is doing magic on screen!!! He is wonderful in all aspects.
Aishwarya Rai is good, she does her part well. The remaining cast was okay, Santhanam and Karunas were wasted.
Danny Denzongpa was good at his role, we can’t expect an aged Professor to behave like typical tamil villains.

The only drawback of the movie is the music. The below average tracks, though sounded okay on screen, with stunning visuals, is otherwise burden for ears. Seriously Rahman needs to re-invent himself. Take a break, Rahman. And compose something worth the hype, next time.

The GFX team does a very good job. Cinematography was equally good. And this is not a movie which we need to watch without brains. We can watch this with our brains itself, no illogical things. It just shows the level science can go.

The common thing in most of Shankar's movies is, that they open a window for dreaming. In 2005, I day-dreamt of a super-hero fighting against the evils of the society, and now I can dream of a time, when our cars are driven by Robots, and Robots work in the mines and underground waters and other such areas, which are dangerous for humans. However, I don’t want a Robot to fall in love with my daughter. So, emotionless Robots are better. Right??
;)

Action Replayy Music Review

Poster

Director: Vipul Amrutlal Shah
Cast: Akshay Kumar, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Neha Dhupia, Kirron Kher etc.
Music: Pritam
Lyrics: Irshad Kaamil

Too many songs, so confusing!!
This could be the one-line to describe this album.Vipul Amrutlal Shah’s latest venture in ‘Eastman colour’ has 9 original songs, and 3 remixes.
First of all, let me say, the first trailer has made a sort of curiosity in my mind, it seems good!Obviously the expectations would be high, considering a Pritam in his good form, and the fact that Vipul Shah has a good sense of music, which is reflected in his films, except ‘Singh is Kinnnng’. We had some excellent tracks in Namastey London (Himesh Reshammiya), some good tracks in London Dreams (Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy). So, do the songs of Action Replayy satisfy the listeners??
Here is my review of Action Replayy songs.

Zor Ka Jhatka - Daler Mehndi & Richa Sharma
The opening number is, in all terms, is fantastic, excellent, and superrrrrbbbb!!! Daler Mehndi and Richa sharma carries out the track in a totally effortless manner, yet it turns to be an extremely likeable track. The lyrics are good. Richa Sharma’s drunkardinsh voice deserves special mention. Big hit, for sure!!
9/10

O Bekhabar - Shreya Ghoshal
This solo of the 4 time National Award winner, Shreya Ghoshal is a feel-good track, The prelude of the song, with her voice in the background is very nice.. With a 70 model love video to boast of, this song has the potential to become a big hit, in TV and Radio.
7.5/10

Nakhre - Francois Castellino
The starting portion is interesting, and the dialogue ‘Aawaaaaaaz,, Neeche!’ is damn good. The song is anti-ladki song, Strangely, it has become a tradition to have anti-ladki, anti-shaadi type of songs in his movies. Om Mangalam Mangalam, Zor Ka Jhatka and now this… Irshad Kamil’s lurics is nice and funny at places.
7/10

Chhan Ke Mohalla - Sunidhi Chauhan & Ritu Pathak
The starting beats and the song seems like a Vidyasagar song, till the line ‘Chhan Ke Mohalla’ comes. Ritu Pathak’s voice is nice. Im really unable to imagine how the video of this song be. May be some item-like song with Neha Dhupia on screen… Don’t know… Anyway, average song.
6/10

Tera Mera Pyaar - Karthik, Mahalaxmi Iyer & Antara Mitra
Another stunning song by Karthik. Instantly likeable, it will also grow in repeated listenings. ‘Tu Khwaab Hai Tu..’ portion is so beautiful. The flute is used excellently in the interlude. Very good track.
8.5/10

Dhak Dhak Dhak - Mika
I like Mika Singh, but this song somewhat irritates me to an extent. The starting Chinese-like music and all were good, but the way he pronounces “Kyun” and “Haan” seems so irritating this time. The rap in the middle is fine.
6.5/10

Luk Chup Jaana - Tulsi Kumar & KK
Pritam trying a ‘Khanabadosh’??? I felt like that when I listened to this. Thankfull, Tulsi Kumar sings better, pretty well. Not so interesting song, but still ok. KK sings most of the portions.
6/10

I Am Dog Gone Crazy - Suraj Jagan
Suraj Jagan comes back to his style of singing, after a somewhat different ‘Sadka Kiya’. Rock-type voice suits him best. Interesting song, the lyrics are also nice… The song is not as long as the other songs of the album.
8/10

Baki Main Bhool Gayi - Shreya Ghoshal
Expected a kind of funny song here, with the title ‘I forgot the remaining’. Of course, the ‘Baaki mein’ portion is the excellent portion of the song. The song goes boring at times, the sounds during the interlude were somewhat boring..
6.5/10

Zor Ka Jhatka (Remix) - Master Saleem & Richa Sharma (Remixed by Tiger Style)
Now, I don’t usually review remixes separately, but this is sung by my favourite Saleem, and is said to be a ‘Remix’. Now, who is this ‘Tigerstyle’?? I saw their names in Challa song of Crook lately, but I don’t understand what they are remixing. I couldn’t find much of differences between the original and the remix. Master Saleem is awesome, im now praying for this song to be included in the movie!!
8.5/10

Three more remixes, nothing special to mention. One is by Tigerstyle, no much difference. The other two have some extra beats and all..

On the whole, There are a bunch of songs that will grow on you, but I doubt whether all these will be included in the film or not!!
Good attempt from Pritam.

Golmaal 3 Music Review

Poster

Director: Rohit Shetty

Cast: Ajay Devgn, Mithun Chakraborty, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Kunal Khemu, Kareena Kapoor

Music: Pritam, Bappi Lahiri

Okay, so the songs of the film I’ve been waiting for the last two years, is out, finally! There are no much expectations, but atleast one powerful title track is a must, and we have the right to expect that! The title track we see in music channels nowadays is pretty good, in fact!Pritam has composed 4 tracks, and two old tracks are re-composed by Bappi Lahiri. With a Mithun Chakraborty element in the film, I wasn’t surprised to see the ‘Disco Dancer’ title for one of the songs. Okay, so I could not wait for the original ACD rips, so I downloaded these digitally encoded songs, and started listening.

Golmaal - K.K, Anushka Manchanda & Monali

The title track is pretty good and well-sung. With the blockbuster promotion, this will surely become a frequent song in music channels, no doubt about it. The song is not as powerful as the ‘Vacancy’ song of Golmaal Returns, but this is much better than the title track of Golmaal 1. I never liked that song much, except, of course, for the ‘Golmaal Golmaal’ portion.. Enjoyable song.

6.5/10

Apna Har Din - Shaan & Anushka Manchanda

Usual Pritam-ish song, carrying traces of ‘Bamulaiza (De Dana Dan)’, ‘Lovely Mera Hit Hit (Billu)’ and numerous other songs. Nothing new, Its the lead singers, who saves the track from becoming a boring affair. The lyrics are pretty good, overall an ok-ok song, may be likeable on screen, if included in the movie.

6/10

Ale - Neeraj Shridhar & Antara Mitra

Antara Mitra’s ‘Barbie Girl’-ish, sweet voice gives a nice start start to the song. Neeraj Shridhar takes the song just after that, and then there is no sweetness in the foreground, its a powerful song, the lyrics are much self-intended, like the Golmaal team telling about themselves!! Antara Mitra later comes back, and the sweetness wasn’t much retained in the hindi lyrics portion. Anyway, this is an enjoyable song.

7.5/10

Desi Kali - Neeraj Shridhar & Sunidhi Chauhan

Usual Pritam stuff, the song falls in the same genre of the ‘Meow’ and some other song of the Golmaal Returns. Not at all interested in this song… Only a good video can save this song, I guess…

4/10

Disco Dancer - Bappi Lahiri

Song from Mithun Chakraborty's old film, of the same name. The song was heard in the Anjaana Anjaani promos also, looking forward for a very funny song video.Nothing much to say about this song, I haven’t listened to the original version, anyway this is like those 80-s type party dance song.

7/10

Yaad Aa Raha Hain - Sudesh Bhosle

Good song, pretty enjoyable. I googled and found out this is also a song from the Mithun da film ,’Disco Dancer’.Sudesh Bhosle’s voice is nice, and I wish this song be used wisely in the film, to bring the house down…

7.5/10

There are three remixes, nothing special to mention about them,. Usual remix stuff, only thing worth mentioning is the suppressed ‘Golmaal’ in the portions ‘Go go go Golmaal’.. Sounds somewhat nice.

On the whole, nothing so great, barring the two old tracks, it is a just- above average album, but then, a Rohit Shetty film doesn’t have much scope for standalone music, all they need is songs with colourful picturisation, two-piece girls, bikes and cars clashing!! Rock this diwali, Golmaal team!!!

Moviesmobile.net, Anything is possible!!

There are some websites we just ignore, and there are some websites that provide us the information we need, and there are very few websites that change our life. Yes, moviesmobile.net is one like that!!!

I stilll remember those days, it was in 2008, I had a 50 days vacation and I was desperate to watch new movies. I was in Kerala then, and new hindi movies seldom released there. I had a slow net connection of 256 kbps, and downloading a 700MB movie was just a hectic task for me...
However, i used to download them from direct, resumable links, with an average download speed of 10KB/s. It took 2 weeks to download Jodhaa Akbar, can you believe it??!!!
I was in desperate search of direct links to download movies, i had joined many online forums and orkut communities which provided direct links for movies.

One fine morning, I found two links for the Pre-DVDRip of the newly released movie from some orkut community. The movie was 'Jannat', starring Emraan Hashmi.
I opened the links and found them to be just 143 MB, together. It was hard to believe, however i thought of giving a try. I downloaded some 3-4% of the first file, and i tried playing it. It was watchable, eventhough there were few visible pixels here and there. But considering the user-friendly filesize, i didn't mind... I downloaded the whole movie and watched it..
Then i thought, there will be more movies in the site, and i deleted the 'Jannat-pDVD-...' part from the link, and entered the site. Little i knew that time, that 'this simple site will be my favorite in the coming years!'.

I found many more movies in the site, all in the range of 150-200MB. The list included some of the movies i was longing to watch, but could not download because of no direct links available..
I downloaded Bhoothnath, TaRaRumPum, Shootout At Lokhandwala, No Smoking, and many many more movies... The site helped me download and watch all latest hindi movies, and i became a frequent downloader!!

My love towards the site kept on growing all the time, and i had even designed logos for the site. I had sent them to Ahmad, but he didn't notice them... :(

I got a better internet connection at home later, and i was afford to download 700MB rips then, but i still preferred my favorite site only. I download from moviesmobile, watch the movie, and if i like the movie, i download the 700MB file.

The movie files in the server are apt for mobile phones. The quality will be very good when we watch them in mobile phones. Even for people who cannot play Avi files in phone, they can convert the movies to 3gp format and watch them in phone. This site is really helpful for people with slow internet connection, and for people who watch movies in their mobile phones on PDAs.

The website is being run be Ahmad, who uploads most of the movies. The supporting people include 'Deadman', 'Sunny', 'Imtiaz', etc..
In Aug 2009, the Orkut community for the site was started, and within 2 days, it crossed 1000 members. This it self shows the popularity of the site...

Now I'm working in Bangalore, I dont hav a Laptop, so i download movies from moviesmobile.net, convert them to 3gp, and watch them easily in my LG Cookie..
So, this site literally made my life easier, thanks a lot Ahmad, you rock!!!!!

“Life made simpler, with moviesmobile.net!!!!”

Jennifer's Body Movie Review

Poster

Director: Karyn Kusama
Cast: Megan Fox, Amanda Seyfried, Adam Brody

There are certain subjects we can see in movies, which never make us bored, if executed properly.
Two of them are horror, and love. Yes, we can watch a love story with at most passion, if it is executed well, and we can watch a horror movie with a higher heartbeat, if it is good enough to make us scared.
People like to be scared about something on screen, and this is the ultimate success of horror movies.

And some movies come in this established manner: “Old wine in new bottle” which is always a delight.
It is the same case with Jennifer’s Body. The concept of innocent girl turning to man-eater is centuries old, but the makers have somehow managed to make it an almost interesting stuff, it is partly because of acting skills, partly the skin show and partly the brain-chilling moments( even though they are very few.)

So, this not-so innocent, naughty Jennifer is turned into a man-eater after she was offered to some evil demon, by a music band for their success. And she eats some of her classmates, and her best friend kills her (I really wonder here, how can somebody kill a cannibal who is already dead??) as she tries to eat that friend’s boyfriend.

The stoy has nothing in it, I am not calling it utter crap, just because of the effort the makers took for this.
The movie completely lies on Megan Fox’s shoulders, who handles the movie safely.
Megan Fox is the one who plays Jennifer, and she is awesome in it.
Had her performance been average, the movie would have been a completely forgettable venture.
But luckily she handles her role with atmost perfection, and saves the movie from a great fall!

The music is awesome in the movie, there are couple of excellent tracks.
The camera is fine, so as the acting by the rest of the cast.
Special mention to the girl who played ‘Needy’, she was good in her scenes, especially the ones inside the asylum.

On the whole, the movie is almost a Megan Fox show, go watch it if you are her fan.
And watch it if you are not her fan, you will be!!

Five Point Someone and 3 Idiots; A comparison

Poster

Author: Chetan Bhagat
Publisher: Rupa & Co

So, I read this book last Saturday. This book is well known, and this is told to be the inspiration behind the movie’3 Idiots’.
Seriously, I couldn’t find much similarities between the movie and the book. Few character sketches and few incidents were similar, but the movie is mostly the effort of Rajkumar Hirani himself.

The book is so nice, which I don’t have to tell you anyway, because you all must have read this book before!
The characters were lovable, and the story unfolds in an interesting manner, in an autobiographical way.

About the characters, let me compare them with the movie. Alok was the only character of the book, whom I found a resemblance with Sharman Joshi’s Raju in the movie. Barring the fact that Alok is a fatso, the traits and behaviour of Alok and Raju matches. The character is taken out from the book, and it was performed well on screen, by Sharman.

Ryan and Hari, I can’t describe them individually, Rajkumar Hirani has mixed like 40% Ryan, 15% Hari, and 45% his own creativity to mould up a character ‘Ranjho’ (played by Aamir Khan’). And he has taken the 50% of Hari, and 50% his own creativity, to develop a character ‘Farhan’ (R.Madhavan). This is quite interesting, the last time I found a similar trait of mixing up characters was when Malayalam director Padmarajan made a movie ‘Thoovaanathumbikal’, which was partly inspired from his own book, ‘Udakappola’.

Alok’s family straightly came out of the book to the movie, they are equally black-funny in both the book and movie. Professor Virus, played by Boman Irani in the movie inspires partly from Cherian, the professor in the novel. Pia (Kareena Kapoor) also doesn’t have deep roots from the book heroine, Neha, barring the fact that both are the ‘Villain’ professors’ daughters and both lost a brother due to her father’s pressure.

Apparently, I found the book to be having a younger feeling than the movie. The movie is also a classic, but in another dimension. Rajkumar Hirani should be appreciated for making that happen.

Chetan Bhagat wrote an excellent book, Raju inspired a little from it and made a movie, and I think there can still be another movie from this book, it would be good.

Two States; The Story of My Marriage Book Review

Poster

Author: Chetan Bhagat
Publisher: Rupa & Co

This is the first book of Chetan Bhagat I’m reading, I had read about this book from Wikipedia, and when I saw this book with one bookseller on the street, I couldn’t stop myself buying it. Of course, It was necessary for me to read it!
So, this much-discussed book I liked a lot, but I guess the overall idea was crap!
Yes, the way the characters are developed, and the way the relationship grows in them, is CRAP.

Few points about the relationship between Krish and Ananya:
It was more lust-oriented than love.
They had sex, and they liked each other, so they continued with the relationship.
Krish’s primary intention before they got into the relationship was to kiss Ananya, which is obviously lust-dominated.

So, I don’t understand why everybody calls it as a great love story, I mean this is a time pass book ,and it is very good guide for the present generation, especially for those people who are in a relationship with somebody not exactly from their caste or state. But, as a lovestory, it sucks!!

Special mention to the Punjabi aunties who are directly into the book from bollywood!!
They were damn good!!!

There are very good moments in the book, the portions of Krish’s father was awesome, and the Guruji portion was also really good. In fact, this is a good entertainer, but not a good lovestory.

Way to go before you attempt a love story, Mr.Bhagat!!

Knock Out Music Review

Poster

Director: Mani Shankar
Cast: Sanjay Dutt, Irrfan, Kangana Ranaut
Music: Gourav Das Gupta, Sanjeev Darshan (one song)

Knock Out, the unofficial (rather illegal) remake of the hollywood flick, ‘Phone Booth’ has five original tracks.
I haven’t watched Phone Booth yet, so I will have to watch this movie, once it gets released.
The music director Gourav Das Gupta had given some impressive tracks for the film ‘Aa Dekhen Zara’ last year, the Lounge version of ‘Zara’ was really a haunting track. Also, the tracks like ‘Ghazab’, ‘Mohabbat Aapse’ were also good, and the listeners are sure to have an expectation about his current outing. Also, with names like ‘Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’, ‘KK’, etc, we do expect some pretty decent tracks which can chill our minds for a while…
So let’s see how the tracks are.

Knock Out- Vishal Dadlani
The starting track of the album is pretty boring, with the usual Vishal Dadlani style f singing, it is not at all an interesting track to listen. Also, the video of the song, being aired in TV is equally, or even more irritating, with its crap sets and guitar and all.
4/10

Khushnuma Sa- Rahat Fateh Ali Khan/ Krishna (2 versions)
These tracks show Gourav Das Gupta’s ability in this soft melody-kinda genre, it is a feel good track with apt instrumentation. Ustad’s version and Krishna’s version are equally good, But I really fear Ustad is getting tooo stereotypic. Try something new, man!!!
7/10

Jab Jab Dil Mile- Sunidhi Chauhan
Another i-don’t-like-it song, but it seems to come out pretty good in TV, atleast for a couple of weeks, if the video is good. Don’ know why all albums need such an unwanted track, it was ‘Pam Para Para’ for Jhootha Hi Sahi, now this…. Sunidhi Chauhan tries to make it feel good, but sadly I don’t feel it good enough!
And nothing more to mention about the remix too.
5/10

Tu Hi Mere Hum Nawaa- KK
This is quite funny, one likeable song, one ignorable song, one likeable song again!!
This falls into the likeable section, with the KK factor in it. Average in terms of orchestration and all, but somewhat good.
6.5/10

Gangubai Pe Aai Jawani- Sumita, Sanjeev Darshan
Now this ‘Gangubai’ track by Sanjeev Darshan, presumably the item number of the film, is slightly above average. Song isn’t that great, but still its somewhat ok-ok. These singers are new it seems, but somehow manages to bring a feeling that is supposed to be there in the song. Its high time bollywood has some really good item number, recent ones like the over-hyped ‘Munni’ or the ok-ok ‘Isak Se Meetha’ don’t make much of an impact…
5.5/10

On the whole, Gourav Das Gupta disappointed me to an extent. Barring the Khushnuma Sa and Tu Hi Mere Hum Nawaa, the remaining tracks are not worth repeated listening. They may be better when the videos are out, but the songs lack the power. Come on Gupta, pump up some power into the songs, like you did in the Neil Nitin Mukesh version of ‘Zara’!!

Overall rating is 6/10
My picks are Khushnuma Sa (both versions) and Tu Hi Mere Hum Nawaa.
